Prepping for Pool Season

6 Steps to Follow When Getting Ready for Pool Season

Late spring or early summer are exciting times in Chattanooga – because these are the times when most pools are being opened up after long months of winterizing. As a responsible pool owner, you need to ensure that every swimming session is safe, secure, and comfortable. Get ready for lazy summer afternoons spent by the pool! Start prepping for pool season by following these steps:

1. Clean Surrounding Areas

Clean up your pool deck or patio, and then start pruning trees, shrubs, and hedges that might shed leaves and branches in the pool.

2. Remove Pool Cover

Give your pool cover some deep cleaning and then wipe it down before storing in a dry and safe place.

3. Clean the Pool

No matter how hot it gets during pool season, no one wants to swim in a dirty pool. The first step to preparing the pool for pool season is to deep clean it. Use a pool vacuum to clean the walls and floor of the pool. Once the deep cleaning has been done, you can maintain its cleanliness with the help of a skimming net. Every day, skim the surface of the water to remove leaves, twigs, and other debris, in order to prevent them from sinking to the bottom.

4. Inspect Filtration System

Now is the best time to inspect the pool’s pump and filter for any signs of damage. Once you see that everything is okay, you can start up the filtration system and run it for a couple of hours.

5. Install Pool Equipment

Remove pool accessories like hand rails, ladders, or diving boards from storage and install them to your pool. Make sure to check for damage before re-installing them and call a professional for repair if you see any damage.

6. Test Water Chemistry

It is important to make sure that the water is safe to swim in. Get your pool professionally tested and treated for pH levels, chlorine balance, calcium hardness, alkalinity, and mineral content. After testing, you can also shock the pool to destroy algae and microorganisms.

7. Hire a Pool Company

Don’t have the skills, equipment, or free time to do all the rest of these steps? Do yourself a big favor and hire a pool service instead. It’s a small price to pay for having a memorable pool season in the company of loved ones. Contact Pool Pros at (423) 298-4241 if you need help preparing your pool for swim season.
